Anthropic is spending $100 million on training because good AI tools without skilled people change nothing.

    Quick Summary

    • Anthropic is investing $100 million in Claude Frontier Academy to train 10,000 Frontier Deployed Engineers by the end of 2027, announced 2 October 2026.
    • The first cohorts come from Accenture, Bain, Capgemini, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Deloitte, McKinsey, Morgan Stanley and Novo Nordisk.
    • More than 46,000 firms have already earned over 175,000 Claude certifications through Anthropic's Claude Partner Network.
    • OpenAI's DevDay on 29 September 2026 added ChatGPT Space, a shared area where a team can work with ChatGPT on pages, slides and scheduled team tasks together.

Anthropic is investing $100 million in Claude Frontier Academy, a program that will train 10,000 Frontier Deployed Engineers by the end of 2027, announced 2 October 2026. The move admits a truth that matters just as much for a small business: the real AI skills gap is not the tools, it is the people who know how to use them.

    What Did Anthropic Announce?

Anthropic launched Claude Frontier Academy to solve what it calls one of the most pressing issues in AI implementation, talent. The first program, the Frontier Deployed Engineer Residency, follows a medical style model, engineers learn from practitioners, work through a simulated enterprise deployment, then lead a real Claude project at their own company over a 12 week residency. The first cohorts are running now in San Francisco, New York and London, with engineers nominated by firms including Accenture, Bain, Capgemini, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Deloitte, McKinsey, Morgan Stanley and Novo Nordisk.

A small team of high agency people with the right skills, access to Claude, and a deep understanding of how their business runs can transform an entire company. Claude Frontier Academy trains people the way our own engineers learn, and we want those who graduate to set the standard for how AI gets built inside a business.from Steve Corfield, Global Head of Business Development and Partnerships, Anthropic (Anthropic, 2 October 2026)

What Can A Frontier Deployed Engineer Actually Do?

A Frontier Deployed Engineer is trained to carry a Claude project from a rough idea through security review to something a whole business actually runs on, not just a prototype that never ships.

    • They lead one named Claude project inside their own organisation, supported by Anthropic engineers during a 12 week residency.
    • They are assessed twice, once on a simulated deployment and once on their real project, before earning the Claude Frontier Deployed Engineer badge.
    • The program builds on Anthropic's Claude Partner Network, where more than 46,000 firms have already earned over 175,000 Claude certifications.

Does This Matter For A Small Business?

Yes, and the lesson is not the size of the $100 million budget, it is which bottleneck Anthropic chose to spend it on. In our workshops in Kota Kinabalu, almost every business owner already has access to Claude or ChatGPT, the gap is always the same, nobody on the team has been trained to apply it to a real HR, finance or admin task. Anthropic training 10,000 engineers for its biggest clients is the same problem a small business has, just solved at a very different scale and a very different price.

    Also Today

    • OpenAI's DevDay on 29 September 2026 introduced ChatGPT Space, where a small team can share pages, slides and spreadsheets with ChatGPT in one place and delegate recurring jobs, such as a weekly project update, as a scheduled team task (OpenAI).
    • OpenAI published a buyer's guide for its GPT-6 model family on 2 October 2026, recommending its cheapest tier, GPT-6 Luna, for repeatable everyday work such as extracting invoice fields or classifying requests, at a fraction of its flagship model's price (OpenAI).

    What To Do This Week

You do not need a $100 million program to close your own AI skills gap, you need one person on your team who actually knows how to use Claude or ChatGPT for your real daily work. Pick one teammate, give them one repeat task such as drafting HR letters or summarising reports, and let them practice on it this week with AI doing the first draft. This is exactly the practical skill building we walk through, tool by tool, in Master Claude AI for Business Productivity.

    Common Questions

    What is Claude Frontier Academy?
Claude Frontier Academy is Anthropic's new training program, backed by a $100 million commitment, built to train 10,000 Frontier Deployed Engineers by the end of 2027. The first cohorts come from firms including Accenture, Deloitte and McKinsey, learning to turn Claude from an idea into a working business system, the same way Anthropic trains its own engineers.
Does the AI skills gap affect small businesses too?
Yes. Anthropic says a small group of highly skilled people drives most of the value a company gets from AI, which is exactly the gap NextGen sees in its workshops. For a small business this usually means the bottleneck is not which AI tool you pick, it is whether your own team actually knows how to apply it to real daily work.
Can a small business learn these same AI skills without a $100 million program?
Yes. You will not get Anthropic's own engineers teaching your staff, but the same practical skills, applying Claude or ChatGPT to real HR, finance and admin work, are exactly what NextGen Training Academy's Master Claude AI for Business Productivity workshop teaches, sized and priced for small businesses rather than global banks.
