Gemini's new video avatar talks, listens and books appointments live, with no human on the line.

    Quick Summary

    • Google made Gemini 3.8 Live with Live Avatar generally available in Gemini Enterprise on 24 September 2026, giving any business a talking, lip synced AI agent for video calls.
    • The avatar handles natural speech with interruptions, runs background tool calls such as checking a booking system, understands 97 languages, and watermarks every clip with SynthID.
    • Equal AI says its Gemini powered assistant already handles more than a million live calls a day across nine languages.
    • Salesforce's Winter '27 release switched on Agentforce by default for every eligible account on 12 October 2026, and a Malaysia AI adoption study found usage reached 38 percent of businesses in 2026.

Google has made Gemini 3.8 Live with Live Avatar generally available inside Gemini Enterprise, giving any business a talking, lip synced AI agent that holds real video conversations. It understands interruptions, speaks 97 languages, and can book an appointment or pull up a record while it is still talking, not just answer typed questions.

    What did Google announce?

Google Cloud announced on 24 September 2026 that Gemini 3.8 Live with Live Avatar is now generally available in Gemini Enterprise, after an earlier preview at Google Cloud Next. It pairs Google's speech model with a video avatar, so a customer talks to a face on screen instead of typing into a chat box or waiting on hold for a phone agent.

Today, it handles over a million live calls daily across nine Indian languages. Gemini 3.8 Live improved interruption handling, multilingual conversations, and tool call reliability. This AI does not just answer calls, it gets things done for you.from Akhilesh Damaraju, CEO, Equal AI (Google Cloud Blog, 24 September 2026)

What can the avatar actually do?

    • Holds a real video conversation with a lip synced avatar chosen from a library of pre built characters; a fully custom face is allowlist only for now.
    • Handles natural speech to speech dialogue, including being interrupted mid sentence, without losing the thread of the conversation or a transaction already in progress.
    • Runs tool calls and API lookups quietly in the background, such as checking a booking system or a database, while it keeps talking to the customer.
    • Understands 97 languages with automatic detection, and can see what a customer is showing it through a camera or a screen share.
    • Marks every AI generated video and audio clip with an invisible SynthID watermark, so the output can be verified as AI made.

How could your business use it?

A clinic could put a video avatar on its website to answer common questions about appointment slots and walk a patient through booking one, instead of a static contact form. A retailer could use it as an always on product advisor that sees what a shopper points the camera at and answers in the shopper's own language. A restaurant could let it take a table booking over video after hours, with nobody needing to pick up the phone. Equal AI, a company already using it, says its assistant now handles more than a million live calls a day, work that would otherwise need a very large call centre.

    Also today

    • Salesforce's Winter '27 release went live on 12 October 2026 with Agentforce switched on by default for every eligible account, so agents can run whole workflows such as qualifying a lead or booking an appointment at no extra licence cost (Salesforce Ben).
    • Anthropic committed 150 million US dollars over three years to the US Genesis Mission on 8 October 2026, giving Claude access to more than 15 federal research agencies including NASA and the National Institutes of Health (Anthropic).
    • A study commissioned by AWS found AI adoption among Malaysia's businesses reached 38 percent in 2026, up from 27 percent the year before, though most still only use basic tools like public chatbots (Business Today, September 2026).

What should you try this week?

You do not need Google's exact avatar to borrow the idea. Write down the three questions your front desk answers most often, then test whether a simple AI assistant, even a text based one, can handle the first reply before a person takes over. That is the same skill we teach hands on in Master Claude AI for Business Productivity in Kota Kinabalu, where you build your own AI workflows for bookings, enquiries and daily admin instead of only watching a demo.

    Common Questions

What is Gemini Live with Live Avatar?
It is a Google feature inside Gemini Enterprise that gives an AI agent a talking, lip synced video face. It listens, speaks back close to real time, understands interruptions, and can run tool calls and API lookups in the background while the conversation keeps going, generally available since September 2026.
How is this different from a normal chatbot?
A text chatbot replies after you finish typing. Gemini Live has fluid speech to speech conversation, understands camera feeds and screen shares while it talks, speaks 97 languages, and can book an appointment or pull a record mid conversation instead of only answering written questions.
Can my business use a video avatar like this today?
Yes, through a Gemini Enterprise subscription. Businesses can use Google's library of pre built avatars now; a fully custom avatar face is currently limited to an allowlist. Cost depends on your Google Cloud usage tier rather than a flat per seat price.
