    Quick Summary

    • Google announced on 29 October 2026 that Gemini can now generate, preview and edit documents, PDFs, presentations and spreadsheets directly inside a chat.
    • PDF editing works on both web and mobile, while Google Docs, Sheets, slide decks and code editing are web only for now, and the feature is free.
    • The update builds on a file-generation tool Google first shipped in April 2026, which could create files but not edit them afterward in the chat.
    • A new AWS-commissioned study found AI adoption among local businesses rose from 27 percent to 38 percent over the past year, though most still lack a scaling plan.

Google announced on 29 October 2026 that its Gemini app can now generate, preview and edit documents, PDFs, presentations and spreadsheets directly inside a chat, free for every user. For a growing business, it means fewer app switches and faster paperwork, from product sheets to financial reports.

What did Google just announce for Gemini for Business?

Gemini for Business just became a lot more useful for everyday paperwork. The update lets you create a document, PDF, presentation, spreadsheet or even code from a single prompt, then keep refining it without leaving the conversation. Expand any file to full screen, type edits straight into it, highlight a paragraph or a number to ask Gemini a question, or tell it to redo a section entirely. PDF preview and editing works on both the Gemini website and its mobile app. Google Docs, Sheets, slide decks, Markdown and code files are editable this way on the web only for now. Google says every Gemini app user gets this, in every language the app supports, at no extra cost. It builds on a file-generation feature Google first shipped in April 2026, which could create files but not edit them afterward inside the chat.

Gemini's new tools, including a dedicated business landing page, help small business owners free up time and focus on what started their companies: their passion.from Vishnu Sivaji, Senior Director, Gemini App, Google (blog.google, 20 October 2026)

What can Gemini actually do with your files?

    • Generate a first draft of a document, PDF, slide deck, spreadsheet or code file from one prompt, then preview it right inside the chat.
    • Expand the file to full screen and type edits directly into it, the same way you would in a normal editor.
    • Highlight any text, number or chart and ask Gemini a question about it, or tell it to rewrite just that section.
    • Turn messy input into a finished file. Google's own example is uploading handwritten notes and asking Gemini to turn them into a formatted PDF study guide.

How could your business use it?

Swap the classroom example for a business one and the pattern holds. A retailer could turn a rough product description into a formatted flyer, then highlight the price line and ask Gemini to make it bigger. An accounting firm could paste in messy numbers, get a formatted summary spreadsheet back, and ask Gemini to redo one chart without starting over. A clinic could turn appointment notes into a one page patient handout and fix the wording on the spot. None of this needs a design program or a separate spreadsheet tool open at the same time, and none of it needs a paid plan.

    Also today

    • Google also introduced Gemini 4 Carbon, its new frontier model built for cybersecurity and long, multi day coding tasks, though for now it is only in the hands of a small group of cyber defenders (Google).
    • OpenAI says Japanese financial firm Credit Saison measured a 954% return on investment during a ChatGPT Enterprise pilot with its staff (OpenAI).
    • Legal AI company Legora launched what it calls an agentic operating system for legal work, built on OpenAI's models, to handle research, drafting and review in one connected system (OpenAI).
    • A new Amazon Web Services commissioned study found AI adoption among Malaysian businesses rose from 27 percent to 38 percent over the past year, though only 19 percent of adopters have a formal plan to scale it (The Sun).

    What to do this week

If your team already uses Gemini, try handing it a messy file this week, a set of notes, a spreadsheet of numbers or a rough draft, and ask it to turn that into a finished document without opening a second app. AWS Malaysia's country manager put the bigger adoption gap plainly: software providers are the scaling engine the country needs, and that applies just as much to a five person outfit as to a bank. If your own team still treats AI as a one off trick rather than a daily habit for documents, reports and admin work, that gap is exactly what our AI Tool Mastery for Work Productivity program is built to close.

    Common Questions

On 29 October 2026 Google said the Gemini app can now generate, preview and edit documents, PDFs, presentations, spreadsheets and code directly inside a chat. You can expand a file to full screen, type edits into it, or highlight a section and ask Gemini to change it, without leaving the conversation.
Does Gemini's new document editing feature cost extra?
No. Google says the feature is available to every Gemini app user in every language the app supports, with no paid plan required. PDF editing works on web and mobile, while Google Docs, Sheets, slide decks and code are editable this way on the web only for now.
How can a small business use this today?
